My new computer (iMac) has allowed me to create some new content for the website. One of the things I can now do is a podcast! It wasn't long ago I had no idea what a podcast was. If you are in the same boat, let me explain it as I now understand it. You may be familiar with website feeds (e.g. RSS, Atom) that allow you to get headlines and stories from websites (for example the links under Syndicate in the menu next to this article). This format allows news reader and email programs to get up-to-date information from websites that publish them. It makes getting new information a lot easier than having to go back and visit a website because as soon as new articles are available, they are automatically delivered to your computer. A podcast is simply the audio version of the same thing! For BirdsIllinois.com, I have created a podcast feed that is the audio version of the posts I make on the website. So, if you own an iPod or run iTunes, you can get the latest content automatically downloaded based on your schedule (your computer fetches the feed rather than this website sending it to you) and then you can listen to the posts. The text version of the posts will always be available here along with pictures and other content. To start receiving the podcast, click on the link below.
